we arrived in Canada last September on a Parents &Grandparents super visa and have gone through so many hoops lately but we finally saw an end in site! (Or so we thought)

As we are using a foreign driving license (France) to continue driving after our year is up we need to get a temporary Alberta driving license, but we have just been told by the Registry Office we need a
PG1 Super Visa counter foil sticker in our passport!

Can any one tell me if this is correct and if so where do we get it done.? I phoned the Canada Customs number they gave me the officer said I have to ring another number. This I did immediately only to find it was CIC.
And waited 20 minutes to get through then gave up,

What do we do has any one come up against this and what did they do, please anyone

Alberta does not issue drivers license to temporary residents and super visa is a temporary resident visa. If they are asking for PG1 Super Visa counter foil sticker in our passport, you should already have it in your passport as you said you came on parents grand parents super visa. Under category on visa in your passport it should say PG-1.

Not sure if you could temporarily exit Canada into US and re-enter and your 1 year period should start again.

I don't understand the confusion.

The sticker is the visa. All visas are stickers.

You show this to Registry when doing your paperwork.

Hi Jalex,
We showed the Registry office our Passports where they are stamped, dated and signed but they still want this sticker.
Even our VisitorvEntry document didn't make any difference, seems to me that each department have different guidelines. They're not all singing from the same hymn sheet.
It's so confusing to newbies in Canada, you do your best to do everything correctly but there is no help at all.

The stamp is not the same as the "sticker". It seems you are confused. The TRV is the sticker in your passport, that is what Registry wants to see. The stamp, dated and signed is irrelevant for Registry.

Will do Linda Bailey fingers crossed, you let me know also.
I have been in contact with CIC in Calgary and was advised to get an ETA which l have done on line. It only takes a couple of minutes on line to get a reply waiting for reply from CIC for hopefully to get appointment for stamp for Registry will let you know if successful.

An eTA is online. You will not get a stamp in your passport or anything like that.

Hi Gloshei
I have had my reply back l have not been able to get the PG1 stamp in my passport so l will have to sell my car. I am so frustrated l hope you have better luck. The reason is because l applied from within Canada so it's not the same visa l was issued.

I have had a further email from cic they advised me to contact registry and ask for a motor vehicle specialist . I was advised l can drive on my British licence. I must carry my passport and licence and visa documents with me along with my car insurance. Hope this helps.

Hi just thought l would let you know l contacted via email mv@gov.ab.ca to get written confirmation that l could continue to drive on my British licence. So if l did get stopped l had proof for the police. They sent email back and it's only for one year. No mention of that when l called the motor vehicle specialist. Have you had any luck.
