Hi all,

if the new bill C-6 become a law, I will be eligible for citizenship within a year and 3 months, before that my PR card will expire in next April 2018, I have 3 kids, one have PR card which will expire on the same date as mine as well, the 2 other kids had a TRP which has expired days ago, I am thinking to to apply for PR sponsorship for my 2 kids who are 2, and 3 years of age, my wife and 3 kids are out of Canada since almost 3 years, I am only in Canada...I have the following questions :

1- if I apply for citizenship next year, can I include my 3 kids( if my PR sponsorship for my 2 kids got accepted), I read in citizenship requirement that physical residency for minor children is not required.

2- Do my kids have to have PR status to be eligible for citizenship ?

thx

Thx PMM,

I read this the following clause from this website: http://settlement.org/ontario/immigration-citizenship/citizenship/apply-for-canadian-citizenship/how-do-i-apply-for-canadian-citizenship/

" A parent, adoptive parent or legal guardian must apply for anyone under 18 years of age. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or be applying to become a Canadian citizen. Minors do not need to meet the residency requirement."

if I sponsor them to be PR, for how long they have to be in Canada at time of filling for citizenship, keeping in mind the above statement that drops the physical residency requirement.

thx

Hi

This may help
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/minors.asp

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0003ETOC.asp

However, nothing clearly mentioned about requirement for child to be in Canada. (or I may have missed) please have a thorough read thru.
In fact it clearly states what documents to get if your child is residing abroad.
Experienced members may know better.
1. That wasn't the question, the OP's children still have to be PRs.

Yes, true, they still need to be PR before applying for citizenship. I wonder will they need to be physically present in Canada to apply for citizenship with their father or they have a PR but not have to be physically present in Canada.

The PR children are still required to be physically present in Canada, no different from an parent PR needing to be physically present in Canada. Just because a child PR does not need to meet the residency requirement to qualify for citizenship does not absolve them of "physical present" requirements.
