Dear All,

I may have an unique situation now. Here are the ingredients:

1. My PR expires on 7th July 2017.
2. My wife and my son both having the same expiration date.
3. We have stayed way more than 2 years required for renewal. Close to 3 years.
4. We did not have any plan to travel outside of Canada this summer as I want to have the renewal as smooth as possible. However, now due to some recent event concerning my parent Heath condition, we are planning to visit them early next month. The trip may be for a month or two depending on the health conditions of them.
5. Now one of my friend advised me to do Urgent PR processing as he had done in two years back and he got his card renewed in 12 days. So his return was smooth.
6. We don't want to face the unwanted scenario of applying for PRTD as it takes several months from my country (Bangladesh- its reporting office is at Singapore) to get one with no fixed time line. It's quite a bit of uncertainty with family given that school year will be open soon.
7. Another major point is that our Bangladesh passport has expired last month. As we were not planning to travel, we did not also plan to apply for a new one as of yet. Now after contacting our high commission here in Ottawa, we came to know that it would take a minimum of 1.5 -2 months to get a new passport. Now my question, can I travel without a valid passport to my own country? Is there any special documents that I can apply for? I will take Emirates, so one stop and transit won't be an issue. But airlines will let me in? What's the procedure??

Please advise. Both for passport expiration issue concerning our travel need immediately within a month. And also the urgent processings of PR. I am in the process of collecting doctor's note for my parents for this trip.

Thanks for your time.

You need a valid passport to travel. You can't travel on an expired passport. That's your main problem right now. I would apply to renew your passport asap.

Problem is that Ottawa consulate saying they need Minimum of 1.5 months if not more for a new passport. And I frankly don't have that much time. Even if I apply now it won't come before August because of Ramadan holidays and all in my country. This will lead me to miss for the reason we want to be there. In Bangladesh, I can get a new passport in one day. Problem is that nobody seems to be so sure about it. My HC in Ottawa is also not helpful as they are not also sure as to what will be a real solution in this case.

Serious illness of a family member is a suitable reason to apply for urgent processing of PR card renewal. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-urgent-processing.asp

As for your passport, I'm not sure. I know there are some special rules for flying back to your country of citizenship, so best you ask to the airline directly or to your embassy/consulate.
Thanks ! Okay one point I need to clarify, do I need to purchase the ticket now and send the reciept along? Truthfully, I have not purchased the tickets yet; just booked them as I am not sure about the date I should be there exactly. Also price is a concern. Agency suggesting me to wait to purchase as the lower class tickets may open up. But what's your suggestion?
