Hi friends,

I am an Indian citizen who is in Vancouver on LMIA work permit.I got a job in Montreal and planning to move there. The company informed me that LMIA got approved and suggest me to apply for work permit online.

Since I am in Vancouver and holding a Canadian Temporary Residence Visa which valid till August 2018, I am wondering if I can get the work permit stamped at the border office here or Montreal?

The company emailed me that the change of employer cannot be processed at the Montreal airport because a flight from Vancouver to Montreal is a domestic flight and that you will not clear immigration at that time.

Is it possible for me to go any Border office inside Vancouver or Montreal and secure a work permit with no delay?

Requesting to please help me with your knowledge and suggestions.
Thank you so much in advance.

Sincerely
Augustine

You would need to travel to a US/Canada land border to obtain your work permit. This is called flagpoling. Once you're at the land border, you would need to exit Canada and then re-enter the country to trigger your work permit.

It is not possible to obtain the work permit from any office in either Montreal or Vancouver. It's also not possible to obtain a work permit if you are flying domestically.

Hi, Scylla

Thank you so much for sharing the info, there is a US- Canada Land Border near to my place in Vancouver (Border crossing station in Delta, British Columbia).

So is it possible to do the flagpole there for my Montreal job?
or is there is any rule that I can do it only in same provinces?

Requesting to please help.

Thanks again.
Sincerely

Hi, Hello Balaji vellai.
Sorry I am not sure about the category as its still it with my employer.they haven't sent it to me yet.
and there is still confusion going on that should I apply online or go to border office.
As per my knowledge its a closed LMIA.As soon as they sent me the document I can share more info regarding this.

1. I assume you know that you also require a CAQ to work in Quebec? IRCC won't issue the work permit without the CAQ and the LMIA

@PMM Thankyou for pointing it out, Honestly I don't have much idea about it, My company immigration department was taking care of the LMIA and I assume that they had arranged CAQ too.I was not getting any information till the time LMIA got approved. Now only they contacted and ask me to fill the forms for the Work permit.I hope everything is going on the right track. Thanks again for sharing the info.
