Vister visa after my working holiday visa expires!

Hello,
My working holiday visa expires on July 2nd 2017 but my plans are to stay in Vancouver on vacation until August 16th then I fly to Toronto to visit family for six days and then I fly home to Ireland on August 21st.

I have been told I would have to change my status on my work visa to 'visitor' which has a fee of $100 (and seems pretty stressful). Is it possible to just drive over the boarder and come back into Canada as a visitor as I will have my flights booked home and just want to spend sometime on vacation for a few weeks travelling around?
