Apologies if this has been asked before: I have applied for citizenship in March. My permanent resident card is valid until February 2018.

Is it wise for me to apply soon for the renewal of my permanent resident card just in case my citizenship does not go through until February next year?

Anybody knows how long renewal for permanent resident card takes?

Thanks
Stef.

As the website and link suggests you should apply for PR card before six months of expiry. SO I suggest if by September 2017 you do not hear anything about your citizenship application or you think it will take long time you should apply but certainly not right now.

Here is the link and text

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=065&top=10

Validity
Most PR cards are valid for five years, but some are only valid for one year. The expiry date is printed on the card. If your PR card will expire within six months, you should apply to renew your card.

processing times within canada are 66 days as said by website but normally its much faster than that

If you will be travelling outside of Canada by plane, train, bus or boat, then you should definitely renew your PR card. If you will not be travelling abroad, or if you will only be travelling to the U.S. by car, then renewing your PR card is not essential.
