My wife has an approved PR Visa, but is yet to land at Calgary, Canada. Can she give me an invitation letter so that I can accompany her to Canada. On this basis will the CIC issue a TRV to me or will she first have to land at Canada and only then can she give an invitation letter for my TRV.

I would be grateful if someone could advise.

Thanks.:)

She can issue you a invitation letter after she has landed in Canada and preferably got PR card. The best way for your wife will; be sponsor you after landing as TRV in most such cases is not easily granted.

Thanks bhavcaluk !! Does that mean Family Sponsorship, ie Spouse PR. But the processing time is more than a year. In that case how do I visit my family.

It is family sponsorship and takes up to one year. If she has not landed you can be added to the visa before landing. .Was it under express entry and you were married after she made application to CIC.

I am serving in the defence forces. hence I could not apply with her. we have been married for 15 yrs and two children. The children are of course going with her. I can apply for PR through Family sponsorship only after my retirement next yeay from the Army. In the intervening two years, I was looking at the TRV option to visit them. I wanted to accompany them for landing, but CIC has refused my TRV on flimsy grounds despite providing all documents. Is there any way out.
Thanks

The only option seems to be spousal sponsorship. For a serving defence person visitor visa is ruled out.

Has your wife listed you as a non-accompanying family member on her PR application?
Yes she has, as I am serving in the military. Is that an issue for issue of TRV. I will apply for PR through spouse sponsorship next year on retirement from the Army. Request you could advise.

Thanks.:)

Yes, it could be an issue. It depends on your role and responsibilities in the military. For example, do you handle highly-sensitive information..... or did you serve in a war..... or handle terrorism.... or have you worked/posted to border areas, etc etc

Typically, you can expect a lengthy background check extending over several months if IRCC considers your role/responsibilities as critical
