We have received the COPR letter for my wife. I am a Canadian Citizen sponsoring my wife.

Do we have to land in the same city of destination as mentioned on the COPR?

The city of destination mentions: Ottawa, Ontario. However we want to land in Toronto, Ontario.

I do live in Ottawa, and we will go there as well. Just my parents, and sister live in Toronto so we would like to visit them and drive to Ottawa with them.

We the immigration officer be suspicious if we land in Toronto and drive to Ottawa instead of landing in Ottawa? Will he ask any questions regarding this?

Congratulations for receiving the PR!!
According to this article there only problems for Quebec if you land somewhere else... Here I highlighted what the answer is an bellow you find a direct link for the website!

Q: Must I land at or near the location I indicated as my intended destination on my application form?
A: Generally, the holder of a Canadian Immigrant Visa may land at any port of entry in Canada without difficulty. This is not the case, however, in the Province of Quebec, due to its exclusive right to select immigrants. If, in your application for permanent residence, you declared an intended destination in Canada outside Quebec, then landing in Quebec may be problematic. Likewise, you may be asked to land in Quebec if your intended destination in Canada had been indicated as Quebec.

No. As the other poster said, you can land anywhere in Canada (except Quebec which can be trickier). You must declare your intention to 'land to activate PR' at your first port of entry in Canada (e.g. if you have a connecting flight and land first in Toronto in order to transfer to say Vancouver, you must declare PR in Toronto)

I do live in Ottawa, and we will go there as well. Just my parents, and sister live in Toronto so we would like to visit them and drive to Ottawa with them.

Immigration officer won't care in the slightest in this instance! I would have thought it is common to land in Toronto even if you are going to live in Ottawa, there are a LOT fewer direct international flights to Ottawa and flights to Toronto are cheaper - even with a 5+ hour drive! (I know coz we flew direct to Ottawa and landed to declare PR in April this year!).

You can land whereever you want in Canada, even in Quebec. The only thing about Quebec it's if you want to move to Quebec for living you'll have to get a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ). Really easy to get for family class PR and take about 5 week to get.

Hi guys. I am a provincial nominee for the province of Ontario. On my COPR the city of destination is Ottawa. Does it mean I have to live in Ottawa? Or can I live elsewhere in Ontario...probably in Toronto or Missisauga..??? Please advise. I searched a lot on the forums but couldn’t yet find an answer!!!

Hi @khsreeharsha ,

I'm in similar situation and I've booked a ticket to Toronto and it will be via Montreal. Actually, flight route is from Mumbai to Paris to Montreal to Toronto.

I guess by now you might be in Canada and since you have had similar experience you can guide me if I have to take any special precaution while landing.

One more thing, in my COPR, my province of Destination is Alberta and I'll be landing at Toronto. Is it fine?

Note: I've applied under express entry-FSW O and not through any PNP.

Thanks.

Make sure that you have plenty time for flight transfer between Montréal and Toronto as you will be processed as a new Immigrant at first port of entry which is Montréal. (Immigration process will take time).

You can land anywhere in Canada no problems. (Just a correction, you’ll be landing at Montréal- like I said first port of entry). Usually, you cannot land in any city in Quebec and give residential address of Quebec if you did not get approved with a CSQ. You are allowed to just land in a city in Quebec and mention address of a different province in Ontario other than Quebec (which I am guessing will be Toronto for you). Just be careful about transfer between the two cities so that you do not miss your connecting flight to Toronto.

Thanks @Krissh2179,

I have layover of 80 minutes only. Do you think it is enough?

I have final destination of my flight ticket as Toronto. Won't the officials there allow me to board the onwards flight to Toronto and I can complete the remaining formalities over there?

I wasn't aware of this situation before booking flight.

Thank you.

I honestly can’t be sure if 80 minutes are enough or not. If its not a busy hour of the day for the airport, then you can be done in as little as 30-40 minutes with your immigration. But if its longer then I don’t think 80 minutes will be enough especially considering you will first have to collect your baggage and then check them in again for your domestic flight plus the other airport formalities. You have to complete every formality at first port of entry.
