Question about PCC & validity if you re-visit a country

Hello guys,

It is my understanding that I need Police Clearance if I have stayed in a country for more than 6 months.
I have lived in the US for a couple of years and have returned to India. So I will be doing the Police Clearance process for the US.

But does my Police Clearance lose validity if I visit the US again once (for less than 6 months) while the US Police Clearance process has been started?

I see.
So you think it is best to apply for Police Clearance after my visit is completed?
Even if my application is not selected when I come back from the trip, can I start the US PCC process?

The reason I was asking this is because the processing time for the US PCC is like 18 weeks.
I was hoping to start this process early, so the PCC is done by the time my application is selected.

You need to apply for a PCC after the last time you exit USA. If you go back to USA before you submit your eAPR you will need a new one.

Submit your eAPR and then go to USA unless you are okay waiting as PCCs can cause delays in applications.

Can you elaborate on your answer? What is eAPR?

eAPR means electronic application of permanent residence.

Submit all your documents and then go wherever you want.

Hey All,

I have a question about PCC too!

I have a PCC from the Indian embassy in US that was issued past August. I have not traveled to India since.

Do I need a new PCC or is the one issued in August valid as I haven't traveled to India since the PCC was issued?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot. Appreciate the response.

It does make logical sense - The Indian embassy would not have anything new to check/report as I have not traveled to India since the last PCC was issued.

However, I am concerned about one thing - the PCC is more than 6 months old. Would that be an issue?

Hello All,

Could you please advise me on when and where to apply PCC for India based on my below situation.

I haven’t received my PR invitation yet, just trying to get my documents ready beforehand. I am currently living in Toronto and an Indian citizen. I am planning to visit India this month. I believe the PCC should be applied after the upcoming visit to India, right? If so

  1. Can I apply for my PCC in India during my visit?

  2. Or should I apply in Toronto after coming back?
One more concern is I re-issued my passport back in 2016 from Hyderabad, India after my initial one got expired and the new passport was re-issued under tatkal Service. I am not sure if necessary police verification was done for the new one under tatkal category, will there be any problem in getting my PCC smoothly?

Also this time I will be visiting to Bhubaneswar, India, I am not sure if I can apply for PCC from Bhubaneswar with a Hyderabad address in my passport. Please advise.

Appreciate your responses.

Hello All,
I got India Police clearance from CGI-Toronto by the end of Jan-2019. I visited India for 2 weeks and returned to Canada on April 2019. I got ITA under CEC on June and my AOR date is 17-July 2019.
My question, since I visited India after India PCC, the India PCC that I had submitted, is it valid? If not, shall I do one more PCC and submit it through webform?
Please advice.

There's no risk. He doesn't need one as the guidelines given by the authorities are as follows:

For any other country

For any other country, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you stayed there for 6 months or more in a row.

Some countries put expiry dates on their police certificates. If you have a police certificate that expired, include it. We’ll accept it if:

  • it was issued after the last time you stayed there for 6 months or more in a row
  • it is not for the country where you currently live
An officer may ask for a new one later on.

There is no requirement if he's stayed in India for only two weeks. If an officer asks for one later on after submission, for his own satisfaction, then that's an entirely different situation.
