Correction on Permanent Resident Card (More than 6 Months old)

I came to Canada in 2012 (I was 14 years old at the time). When Canada issued me my visa, they made a typo (an extra letter) in my name on the visa stamp. When we got to Canada, we told the immigration officers about the typo and they made a note about the correction for my PR Card. But when I got the PR Card, it had the same typo. All my other documents in Canada have my correct name but my Visa Stamp and PR Card have a typo.

We didn't get it corrected and here we are 4 years later. I am trying to get my citizenship now and I think the error will be problem. The Canada immigration website only has information about correcting errors on PR Cards within 6 months of issuance but nothing about correction errors after that. I am wondering what is the correct course of action now.

It's been discussed a few times here and also documented on CIC website.

First and foremost, is the typo also present on your COPR? If yes, you must get that corrected 1st. You find application kit on CIC website, duration being ~ 6 months. Only then, if they approve this and make correction, can you submit your PR card for replacement (it will take approx. same time as a renewal). For that there is also a kit.

If the error is not on COPR but only PR CARD, you just need to apply for the replacement (see above), using I think IMM5530.

How did you fix the typo eventually? Did you stay in Canada entirely for four years and didn’t leave?
