Hi,

I am on a post grad work permit. I have about 1700 working hours and ielts score of 8.5 Reading , 8.5 Listening, 8 Speaking, 7 Writing. In this experience, I had worked as an independent contractor for 4 months (around 650 hrs). Though I had a business number, I was an employee to a company. Am I still eligible for express entry under CEC. Without this I will fall below 450 points. Is someone facing the same situation. My work permit is ending soon in 4 months. It is going to be a very tight situation. By the way, I am Masters student in Electrical and Computer Engineering (graduated in Canada).

Any suggestion to whether create an express entry profile now, will be much appreciated.
Happy Holidays :)

Cheers

Your profile seems fine and eligible for EE. Don't see any reasons stopping you from applying. What exactly are you concerned about?

[/quote Is that not considered self-employed?

I am in the same situation. Although, i am eligible for CEC based on my experience with a different employer but my current job is on contract, i have a business number which the company uses to pay my salary, no T4, i have to pay my taxes myself but i work 40 hours per week. I checked the self-employed box on my express entry profile, no point given.

Your profile for sure has a good chance to qualify & be eligible to CEC “Canadian Experience Class”.

Eligibility for CEC:

Skilled work experience
To be considered for the Canadian Experience Class, you need to have Canadian skilled work experience within three years of applying. According to the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC), skilled work experience means:
• Managerial jobs (NOC skill level 0)
• Professional jobs (NOC skill type A)
• Technical jobs and skilled trades (NOC skill type B)
Your experience must be at least 12 months of full-time (30 hours of paid work per week or more) or an equal amount in part-time hours.
Full Time
30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
Part time
15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
OR
30 hours/week for 12 months at more than one job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
You must show that you did the duties set out in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC, including all the essential duties and most of the main duties listed.
If your existing work permit is about to expire, you may be eligible for a bridging open work permit. If you are eligible, this permit can let you keep working while you wait for a final decision on your permanent residence application.
Education
There is no education requirement for Canadian Experience Class. But, if you want to earn points for your education under Express Entry, you either need:
• a Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree,
OR
• a completed foreign credential, and
• an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from an agency approved by CIC. [The report must show your foreign education is equal to a completed Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree.]
Note: You will only benefit from getting an ECA if your foreign education is equal to a completed Canadian high school diploma or greater.

Language ability
You must:
•meet the minimum language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs OR Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for NOC B jobs, and
•take a language test approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) that shows you meet the level for speaking, listening, reading and writing.
You must show that you meet the requirements in English or French by including the test resultswhen you complete your Express Entry profile. Your test results must not be more than two years old on the day you apply for permanent residence or you will need to retake the tests.
Considering all the above factors your profile meets the basic eligibility criteria to apply for CEC & create your express entry profile. Both your education & language credentials are good for you to proceed further. While you are awaiting a decision on your PR, you could apply for Bridging Open Work Permit visa & remain in Canada.

Fore more information you could refer to the official Canada migration website.

“I wish you all the luck”. Don’t delay, apply immediately.

Thanks all for the reply. I guess this line is not mentioned in the previous post

Self-employment and work experience gained while you were a full-time student (for example, on a co-op work term) does not count under this program.

Since I worked as a contractor, I didnt have T4 for those months. I had to file that amount as "selfemploymed" while filing taxes.

I am wondering, what will happen if I create a profile adding this as work experience.

Thanks for the time

I don't think your experience will count as it is self employed

I’m in a similar situation and was wondering if anyone got through it.

Thank you

Did contractor hours count for EE ? Did you get PR ?
Hi, Can you please tell me whether you got a PR?

I am on a PGWP work permit. I worked on a contract through staffing agency.

When I check 'self-employed' checkbox while filling the wwork history in the EE application then my CSR points fall below current threshold and I am not considered for CEC.

I want to know whether you were incorporated, and working as an independent contractor through a third-party vendor? If yes, did you get PR?
