Change of Marital Status after passport stamping

Hi,

In my PR application, my marital status is single. Today, I received my PPR.
I am planning to get married in October and I want to include my fiance in my application so we can both land in Canada together as PRs.
In the PPR email, I am asked to submit my passport and photos within 30 days.
I am worried that I will not be able to include my fiance in my PR application if we do not get married within 30 days.

My question is - after I get my passport stamped, can my marital status still change and would I still be able to include my wife with my PR application?
Or do I really need to get married first within the next 30 before I submit my passport?

Thanks!

If you get marriage before LANDING (regardless of before or after passport is stamped), you will need to submit your wife details and forms to CIC to process. Your wife will need to go through medical exam. After CIC satisfies with these documents, CIC will send passport requests again to both you and your wife. The process will take another 3 to 6 months.

Is there a risk of jeopardizing my own PR status if I get married after my passport gets stamped?

Nope.
My friend had the same situation.

Your options are:

(a) Get your passport stamped now, and land before you get married. After you get married, you can sponsor your wife. This is the practical approach.

(b) Get legally married now (and hold the traditional ceremony in October), and inform CIC of the change in your marital status before you submit your passport; you will then add your wife to your application. This would be the FASTEST route (esp. if you can manage it to get married in Canada).

(c) Depending on when you did your medical exam - it may be possible to get your passport stamped now but knowing you won't be able to land and you will have to return it after you get married - this depends on the expiry of the PR visa, which is generally 1 year from the date of your medical exam. This also means you cannot leave and re-enter Canada until after you get married. Then you will both have to wait until she is added to the application.

But if your PR visa will expire before the wedding, the third option is not viable for you.

Hi All,

Does IRCC have a minimum PP validity period at the time of filing the e-ApR or at the time of issuing of PPR?. If yes please do share me the link as I am facing a problem with respect to addition of my spouse.

Here is my case. Please let me know if you have any advise on what I can do.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My e-AoR has been on March 4 2017. I applied as single candidate. Going by the expectations I may get my PPR by first week of August. 2017. My Medicals will expire on 10 Jan 2018. I am getting married in second week of August which will be after my PPR. I want to add my spouse to my application before I land. Her Passport is valid till 24 November 2019( Two Years and 3 months from now.) Assuming I am able to load her documents to IRCC by September last week and IRCC takes three months to process her PPR, her PP validity will be less than 1 year 11 months when IRCC wants to issue PPR. Will IRCC reject my application due to validity less than 2 years at the time of issuing of PPR?. Someone told me that IRCC required 2 years of PP validity to process PR applications. Is this correct?. I do not want to renew her PP right now because it will take 2-3 months to get her new passport and then take 2 months to get her FBI-PCC which will delay her addition to my application by a great deal and IRCC will not give me so much time to provide her documents after I inform them. Please advise me as what should be done.

Thanks and Regards,

Hey guys

I have got this email from Vienna office after notifying them about marriage two weeks ago. I already have visa stamped in my PP:

Dear Mr. XXXXX,

Please return the passport and the COPR to our office. The following documents are required for your spouse:

· Payment of the processing fee for your spouse

· Completion of the IMM008, Schedule A and Additional Family Information by your spouse: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/prov-apply-application.asp

· Updated Additional Family Information sheet and the IMM008 by yourself

· Police clearance certificate(s) for your spouse

· Marriage certificate

· Spouse’s passport copy

· 2 photos according to the instructions

This is the only reply I got, and I raised CSE and send emails also. There isn't any specific instructions on how to send the docs or any deadlines about return of PP or sending the docs. MyCIC account didn't got any update for additional docs.
Very confused on how to move further..

Any advice would be of great help.
Cheers

Hi,
Darko986,

Please update the situation. How did you send the passport for cancellation of existing visa and then adding your spouse for the same. I am in a similar situation and need to know this. Any help would be greatly appreciated

After this email I got another email to send my passport and COPR for cancellation at the embassy. I send it back through VAC mail, the same way I sent it for stamping. After that MyCIC account got updated and had new slots for uploading required docs.

Hey Shashank,

Have you submitted all the documents? What is the processing time and what are the chances of rejection?
Please suggest as I am in the same situation.

Hello,

I had submitted the documents and got a confirmation (COPR) again. I got it in 3-4 days, after i had submitted all the documents of my spouse.

I all the documents are complete, then why would be there any rejection? Just make sure all the documents are in order.

Regards,
Shashank Jain

Hi Om,

Following is the response on your questions.

1. The email ID i used for change in my marital status is CPC-CTD-Ottawa@cic.gc.ca only.
2. I think email is the only possibility you can reach out to them along with the case specific inquiry form available on their website
3. Say, you tell them that you are getting married on so and so date. For Eg: You mail them on 26th Dec 2017, that you are getting married on 15th Jan 2018 through email. Then you would typically get a reply in 14-17 days with an attachment asking the documents and details of your spouse. Say that mail came on 18th Jan 2018. Then, you have 30 days to submit all the documents of your spouse. Then that deadline would be 18th Feb 2018. After you submit all the documents of your spouse, they will send a COPR again after 1 week of submission. So in this example, assuming you submit on the last day, you get a final COPR on 25-27 Feb 2018.

4. There are 3 ways you can do it.

(i) Get legally married now and do a cultural/traditional wedding in Apr'18.
(ii) Take your own COPR now and then declare marriage on Apr'18 and then inform CPC about your marriage change situation. This would also depend upon when you have taken your medical exam. Typically, you get a visa validity till expiry of your medicals (validity is 1 year after you have taken your medicals).
(iii) Sponsor your wife after you land in Canada - usually more longer process

CPC will only be interested to know when you are already married. They would not be interested to know if you are getting married 4 months down the line.

5. No
6. 14-17 days
