Processing time for OINP? (Entire process)

Hi guys,

I am considering if i should go for CEC with EE, or OINP (international students with job offer). If my past co-op employer says they will be able to apply for OINP for me, then which one will be faster? OINP or CEC?

For CEC, I must first get 1 year experience, so 1yr+6 months maybe. BUT it could be hard for me to get high points with just 1 year of experience. I could get a 1 year certificate while I work, but i don't know if that would increase my points, and this might make the process take a bit longer (since I don't know when I will finish the certificate yet)

For PNP, Employer sends pre screen form, then after invited, they and I both send all the required documents, right? But i can't find anywhere the total processing time for ONTARIO pnp. Not sure if its same for all streams, like international student with job offer, and PhD students, etc.

Could anyone please help me? This is a very important decision i have to make. Thank you so much.

You can actually apply to both simultaneously. But that means you have to pay application fees for both.

IMO, at the rate OINP is going, EE/CEC would be quicker.

OINP is a bit lengthy- here's the entire timeline:

1. Get the notification of interest. You are required to respond to this with your application packet, if you want to pursue this further (up to 45 days)
2. Application packet received. OINP goes through its backlog until it gets to your file, and issues you an acknowledgement of receipt (45-60 days)
3. OINP processes your application- assuming everything is in order, they issue you your PNP (up to 60 days)
4. You receive your PNP; you need to respond to this nomination (up to 30 days)
5. Your PNP points are added to your profile, and you are issued an ITA in the next round of draws (1-2 weeks)

Put together, the entire process can take over 200 days- that's about six months total. The big bottleneck here is OINP issuing you your AOR- that's what takes the most time, and the worst part is, your application status is untrackable during this period as well. And this is just the PNP part of the application! After this, you are issued your EE ITA, and the process then can take 4-6 months in addition, too!

Now of course, it can take a shorter amount of time - my OINP application was processed in a little over three months - but as time has gone on, the processing times for the applications have gone up. So do keep that in mind.

That said, OINP is also fairly easy and liberal, and I would recommend it- it's an easy way to score 600 points. But if time is a consideration, EE/CEC would be a better option for you.

OP mentioned the OINP international students with job offer stream, which is outside of Express Entry, so they can't get the 600 points in EE through this. It's a different process from what you described above:

If the status quo applies by the time OP goes for the PNP, they will go through the paper-based PR application upon nomination.

Ah. Well, disregard everything I said, then :p

Thanks so much for your input. I guess I will apply for both then. But do you have any idea how to get my point above 400? You can get PNP certificate if you go over 400 right?

While I work for 1 year to gain the necessary experience, can I study 1 year long online certificate program of my choice? Will this count? Or the additional certificate/diploma has to be a 2 year long?

With my bachelors, 1 year experience, and even with all english level of High Intermediate (CLB8), my point is below 400 presumably because the experience is so short. Before the EE started, 1 year of experience would almost guarantee CEC applicants to get a PR, but it seems like it became so much harder..

IMO you might as well apply to the paper-based international student with job offer stream since you have that opportunity and your employer is willing to do it.

Express Entry isn't too fair to fresh graduates with little work experience. You'd need at least 450 in Express Entry.
You could retake IELTS to get to CLB 9 (faster than getting work experience or a second degree) to get over 400 for OINP-EE if that's what you'll choose.

Hmm.. Do you know how difficult it is for OINP to nominate me once i get my points above 400? I just found out CLB9 doesn't mean the IELTS score has to be 9, and most of the categories are actially 7. I think it might be doable. I thought they are asking for impossible lol..

Also, if I go for the EE with OINP, Can I also apply for the International Students with Job Offer stream, even though I got nominated for having 400 or more points?

Thanks so much again.
