Hello,

My wife has got 1 Year multiple entry visitor visa. I am a PR holder. I have following questions. Could anyone help me please ?

1. Should she be coming to Canada with return ticket as well ? Is the return ticket mandatory while visiting ?
2. We can try for Visa extension after 6 months. If denied, can she just go to US (She has US visa as well) or India and then return without any problem ?
3. For how many days she should be outside Canada so that she can come back again ?

Thanks in advance.
Anil.

Hi Anil,

From what you've mentioned, particularly that your wife has a 1 year TRV, I guess you have an ongoing spouse PR application that's crossed sponsor approval stage.

1. Yes, it is necessary for her to have a return ticket.... airlines will not let her to board on a one-way ticket + if she has to show it to the officer at the POE. You can buy refundable tickets.... change the date/cancel the return ticket later.

2. Not possible to say if she will be allowed to re-enter/for how long. It depends on the immigration officer she meets at the POE.

3. There's no rule. She must appear to be a genuine visitor and not using a TRV to stay long-term

Cheers

Thanks Bryanna for the reply.

I haven't filed the sponsorship application yet. I applied TRV first.

1. How long the return date should be ? Do the immigration officer stamp the dates based on our return ticket ?
2. What date do you suggest ?

Thanks,
Anil.

Hi Anil,

Although it's quite difficult to get a TRV, a 1-year TRV is normally issued if the spouse PR application crosses the sponsor approval stage. Anyways

As your wife does not have an ongoing PR application, she must appear to be a genuine visitor. Her flight tickets could match the visit duration stated in her TRV application. How long did she say she wanted to visit?

The immigration officer may/may not ask to see the return ticket. But if it appears that she intends to stay for long-term then there's a possibility that he may limit her visit

Cheers

Hi Bryanna,

We asked for 1 month visit time.

I am just wondering if i book return ticket dated one month after, will she be stamped only one month time on the Visa ? This seems to be very confusing. Or should i just book a return ticket dated 5 or 6 months after ?

Thanks,
Anil.

Is it mandatory to buy a ticket before the visitor visa is issued as the document checklist shows this as one.

No, it's not mandatory to buy tickets. You can submit a provisional flight itinerary and state that tickets will be confirmed when a TRV is issued

Book the return ticket (refundable + date change is allowed) for 3-4 weeks later. Normally, she would be allowed to stay for 6 months (no handwritten date under the entry stamp)

not true , pls don't give false information , My wife got trv approved and i knew 4 other ppl got it without buying a ticket . buying a ticket never was a condition to approve or deny a visitor application . why would ircc wants ppl to buy tickets before granting the visa with high chance of refusal of the visa ? Please don't mislead the OP . 4 ppl including myself granted visitor visa and we are in Canada already , we bought tickets after the visa was stamped on our passports , on the other side i knew other ppl bought round trip tickets to convince the officers or they thought it might help to get the trv approved and they were refused in less than a week .
