What happens if the sponsor loses their job after applying?

I submitted my spousal sponsorship at the end of November, and now the company I'm working at is going through some financial difficulty and has begun laying off some of its employees. If I end up being among the employees who are laid off, I'll probably inform the CIC just because I don't want there to be any surprises.

How would this affect my application? Would I be ineligible to sponsor my spouse if I lose my job?

You don't need to do anything in this case. Hope you will start maybe looking at other companies to potentially work for as a "Plan B", just my personal advice. Happy new year flx2015, wish you the best.

Thanks. I've already started looking, but it may take a while before I find something. Do you think they'll reject/delay my application if they find out I'm unemployed?

No, and you don't need to notify CIC.

The only thing that matters is the employment info was correct at the time you mailed the application.

Anything that happens after that is irrelevant and you don't need to inform CIC about any job changes.

This really help. We submitted our application last January 6, haven’t received any AOR yet. My husband lost his job last feb14, hopefully everything is fine. He will have a job interview tom. Wishing for the best.

No worries (as long as you don't go on welfare). But if you got laid off you can get E.I. (ei is not a problem).
Best of luck for job search.
