Hi everyone,

As you know I am still working out the permanent residency stuff and still would like to be able to work while waiting for all the paperwork to go through. I will send in an application with open work permit when I am able to go under common law status.

I was wondering if there was any way I could sign up for a work permit and start work already? I never worked before in my 22 years of life (personal reasons), so I have no experience with anything. I also don't have a specific field either so I would be looking for work in a mall or gas station, maybe mcdonalds.

Can anyone help with this?

If you want to get a work permit now, then first you will have to find an employer who is willing to hire you. That employer will then need to obtain an approved Labour Market Opinion (LMO). Once you have all of this, you can then apply for a closed work permit tied to that specific employer.

In order to be approved for the LMO, the employer will have to prove that they advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian to hire for the role.

Thank you for the full answer. For me, this information is very useful!
