Spouse sponsorship - Birth certificate requirement

Hi:

I have collected all the documents to sponsor my wife but she does not have birth certificate. I am planning to provide a certified copy of her matriculation certificate (translated from Hindi to English) as civil status document.

Will that be sufficient? Any experience or ideas will be much appreciated.

In countries where people over a certain age typically do not have a birth certificate, the visa officers will be aware of this. Just attach an explanation of why she does not have one (they'll understand), and include any proof of her age she has.
The India guide says the matriculation certificate can be used; if she has anything else, I would include that as well.

In India, it was not mandatory until 1967 to register birth or death. In 1967 an act was passed to register births & deaths making it mandatory.

I would suggest not to rush, ask your wife to try to get a birth certificate if it is possible, or atleast "No Recird Found" statement from the respective office. Including matriculation certificate as a proof of birth will definitely help if your wife is not successful in getting one.
Remember if your all the documents are appropriate & in order then your sponsorship application will move faster than others who have complexities. I have seen an example where an person got the passport request in 60 days after the CPC Sydney received the application. Though it took around 4.5 months in my case as I had to deal with a rejection in the interview of my wife.
So collect your documents diligently and follow the instructions on the forms very carefully, you can get success faster....
