The case is based on establishment in Canada, best interest of the children, adverse country conditions.
I just want to know if I am allowed to keep my current status until the decision is made, or I have to stop working the moment my work permit is expired.

I know that we can apply for work permit after the initial stage, but don’t know about the work permit. My friend shares similar case to mine, and her lawyer asked her to submit for a work permit after him sending submission letter.

Hi, I have seen where someone whose case is similar to yours applied for a WP renewal before it expired with a change of employer/terms or so. They attached their H&C submission letter with explanation that they would be destitute without ability to continue working while the H&C decision is ongoing. They received an OWP before they even got an AIP. It's worth a shot. Good luck.

The idea is to provide deterrent, look how fast the crossings dropped. Imagine the poster here who thinks of H&C as just another "stream" is shackled up with their entire family and loaded on a military plane to be sent home. It sends a strong and clear message - don't take advantage of good people. Just because your WP expired and you have a baby, it doesn't mean you are eligible for H&C. People can disagree but imo, the abuse is rampant and nothing can or will be done to stop it.

US literally has ICE air and a process to deport people. Having a large number of people being deported via normal means is deterrent enough you don’t actually need added cruelty, ignoring the constitution, locking people up in a foreign goulag, etc.

Qualifying for H&C is becoming much more difficult. Your child is also relatively young. You really need to be working towards other options for your best attempt to remain in Canada.

Agree this was typically possible. That said not sure if this will actually continue because it has created a pathway for those with expiring WPs to extend their WP even if they have minimal chances of actually getting approved for H&C (speaking in general not about your specific case). Would keep monitoring what immigration reforms happens in the months after the election.
