Retroactive CCB Payouts?

Hello,

My family (Wife + 2 kids) and I moved to Canada from India as Permanent Residents in Aug 2024. (We did a soft-landing (1 month) in Sept 2023 to get our PR cards, SINs, etc.. But we stayed in an AirBnB and did not have "significant residential ties to Canada" for tax purposes. Our rental lease agreement begins Aug 2024.)

We have only just gotten around to completing the CCB forms (RS66) and intend to send it out this week. (Submitting with my wife as the recipient.)

On multiple places on the official websites, it is mentioned that retroactive CCB can be paid out (as far back as 10 years).

Question: How will the past/retroactive payments be given? Assuming we quality for monthly payments of say $500 and our date of entry was 1-Aug-2024, will we get a lumpsum deposit of $500 times 8 or 9 months (Aug 2024 to date)? Do we need to submit any other forms?

(We are in the process of filing our tax returns online.)

Thank you,
Sid

So when over the last 10 years did you and your children live in Canada. That is retroactive payments if you live and worked while filing taxes but didn’t file for CBB.

Thank you for your reply.

By "retroactive", I am referring to the period from Aug 2024 (our date of entry in Canada) to..... whatever date in the next 8 to 12 week when our monthly CCB payments start.

So, for example, if the standard monthly CCB payments begin in June 2025. When and how can we get the payments for the period Aug 2024 through May 2025?

You have to file first and then you will be assessed based on income. Then you may be eligible for retroactive payment.
