Where / how do I include our citizen kid in spousal application?

I'm applying for PR for my spouse, but my kid (adopted, living out of country) already got his Canadian citizenship. I'm confused about where to include him in the application as all the references to kids assume the kid is NOT a citizen, or that my kid is "accompanying" my spouse??

Include on other family information form (if there is one - online is a bit different). Does not need to be included on main because - as you note - the kid is a citizen and can't be an applicant.

I'd suggest including a letter of explanation and passport copy etc to show why the kid not included.

Yes, you have to enter the kid's information here: Additional Family Information (IMM 5406) (online application!).
I misinterpreted what they were asking for and had my application returned because I did not include my kid who already is a Canadian citizen.

If you look at the guidelines to this form you have to go to the part where they explain how to fill out the form for paper applications even if you apply online:
"It is very important that you list all of your children (even if they are already permanent residents or citizens of Canada)."

I'll bow to those who have done the online - but on the old paper apps, and the last time I looked at the downloadable IMMM0008 forms, it is VERY clear - children who are PRs or citizens are NOT included on that form. I understand it's gotten more confusing with the online forms.

Yes and no.
I think that is exactly where I got confused when I filled out the form the first time. I did not include my citizen kid in Section B, because it says "children who are PRs or citizens are NOT included on that form". Then my application got returned. Reason: "Children not listed and/or listed incorrectly" in Additional Family Information (IMM 5406).

I think what they mean is: Do not fill out this form FOR your citizen kid (as a secondary applicant or whatever, because the kid is already a citizen and doesn't need to apply for permanent residency).
BUT: If you are the principal applicant you have to list your citizen kid in Section B.

This is what I said: children (ALL - regardless of citizenship, age, etc) must be included on the additional family infomration form (which I called the other family info form).

On the MAIN form - which used to be called IMM008 - they should not be included.

Sorry, I was so focused on my dilemma with form IMM5406, that I didn't see that you were referring to the other form

Wow I don't blame you for getting this wrong!! On the website it says "You (the principal applicant) must fill out this form for yourself and on behalf of any of your family members 18 years of age or older who are not already Canadian citizens or permanent residents. "

it is the most common confusion of IMM5406, you're not alone
the correct translate for that statement should be "You have to fill out the form for yourself (as PA) and on behalf of any family members who is dependent in your profile"
the keyword is "on behalf" which means your dependent should have their own separate family information form and you will fill it on behalf of them only
in your own family information form, you have to list down ALL of your family (spouse/parent/children/siblings) regardless of their immigration status

Note, you fill these out on behalf of/ only for dependants who are under 18 AND are not already PRs or citizens.

But you do note all children/dependants on the principal applicant's form (regardless of age or citizenship).
