Hello,
I am seeking clarification regarding travel rules for individuals who immigrated to Canada through the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP). Since EMPP applicants are granted permanent resident status upon arrival in Canada and are classified as economic immigrants rather than refugees, does this mean they can visit their home country without jeopardizing their status in Canada?

I understand that refugees who are resettled in Canada are generally advised not to travel to their country of origin, as it could result in their refugee status being reviewed or revoked. However, since EMPP immigrants are economic immigrants, would traveling to their homeland impact their PR status in any way?

Additionally, are there any legal or practical considerations (e.g., issues at Canadian borders or residency obligations) that I should be aware of before planning such travel?

I’d appreciate any insights from those with experience or knowledge of the EMPP program or Canadian immigration laws.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Enhancing your ride with the right UTV accessories can improve performance, comfort, and safety. A roof and windshield offer protection from the elements, while skid plates and bumpers safeguard against rough terrain. LED light bars provide better visibility for night rides, and cargo boxes help keep gear secure. Upgrading suspension and tires enhances handling on challenging trails. The right accessories can make a big difference in both work and recreational use.
As an EMPP immigrant, you are a permanent resident under the economic immigration category, not a refugee. This means you can visit your home country without jeopardizing your PR status. However, you must meet the residency obligation of 730 days in Canada within a five-year period. Frequent travel may be considered if you apply for citizenship in the future. It’s advisable to ensure there are no unresolved immigration issues and consult IRCC or an immigration lawyer for official guidance.

I disagree because the only way you qualify for EMPP is if you are already identified as a refugee. During the large Syrian refugee program refugees were also awarded PR on landing but that doesn’t mean they were not a refugees. Would suggest OP clarify in writing with IRCC whether they fall under the refugee travel limitations.

Suggest you clarify in writing with IRCC whether this is considered an economic or refugee pathway.
