Hi @Miss bee ,

I really hope you can help me with my inquiry.

I am a full-time international PhD student in BC who just received a nomination through the BCPNP to apply for the PR (Non-EE Stream) Through the international post-graduate stream. I will submit my PR application within the next two weeks.

Last week, I received an offer letter from a big US company for a 3-month internship this summer. I will be working in person which means I will have to be away during this internship period. However, my address in BC will be sustained throughout this period as my spouse (will be included as an accompanying dependant. Will be attending grad school in BC starting in Sep 2025) and child (Canadian by birth). I will be doing this internship under the "industrial internship" course through my university, which means I will be also maintaining my full-time status as a graduate student. The internship is in WA and I plan to travel back to BC every other week to visit my family until my internship is finished then I will be back to resume my coursework and other degree requirements.

I have been studying since Sept 2021 (this is 3.5 years) where I earned my master's and then followed up with my current PhD studies, both in BC.

Question: Will this harm my PR application? Does this violate my declared intention to live in BC? Again, I am still a full-time graduate student and this internship is in coordination with my school, of course.

Thank you so much!

Your situation seems well-aligned with the requirements for the BCPNP International Post-Graduate stream. Here’s a breakdown:

1. Intention to Reside in BC:
• Your intention to reside in BC is demonstrated by your long-term studies, your spouse’s upcoming graduate program, and your Canadian-born child living in BC.
• Your temporary internship in the U.S., which is part of your PhD program and approved by your university, is unlikely to be seen as abandoning your intent to stay in BC.

2. Full-Time Student Status:
• Since your internship is considered part of your academic program, your full-time student status remains intact. This aligns with BCPNP’s requirements.

3. Ties to BC:
• Maintaining your address in BC and regularly visiting your family further supports your commitment to BC residency.

4. Notification to BCPNP/IRCC:
• While it’s not mandatory, proactively informing BCPNP or IRCC about your internship through a web form can help prevent misunderstandings.

5. Travel Considerations:
• Ensure you maintain proper documentation when re-entering Canada and keep proof that your internship is tied to your academic program.
In summary, your situation should not negatively impact your PR application as long as you maintain your BC ties and full-time student status.

Hi @Miss bee
Since I have an OINP PNP nomination under the International Student Stream with an employer job offer, and my PR is in process (non-Express Entry), my work permit expires in December. Should I apply for a closed work permit ( how to do that ) or a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP)?

Also MP said that - MY PR application is being processed in the Windsor office. The medical and criminality assessments have been completed and the eligibility assessments are in progress. The security assessments have not yet started. Does this mean background check is done?
Hi @Miss bee,
Do you have any advice for this case? Thank you

Hello @Miss bee
What should be placed for end date for current employment if it does not have an end date because you are currently working for that job? Is is a cause for return if left blank?

Hi @Miss bee,
Do you have any advice for this case? Thank you
1. Work Permit Options:
Since you have an OINP PNP nomination under the International Student Stream with an employer job offer and your PR application is in progress, you have two options:
• Closed Work Permit (Employer-Specific Work Permit):
This work permit is tied to your current employer and requires a job offer. Since you already have an OINP nomination with a job offer, you can apply for this.

Steps to apply:
1. Get a Job Offer Letter and Employer Compliance Number from your employer.
2. Apply online through the IRCC portal: Employer-Specific Work Permit Application.
3. Submit supporting documents like your nomination certificate, proof of employment, and other requested forms.

• Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP):
This allows you to work for any employer while waiting for your PR decision. However, PNP applicants are only eligible for BOWP if their nomination certificate doesn’t have an employment restriction. Check your nomination certificate to confirm this.
Steps to apply:
1. Go to the IRCC portal: Bridging Open Work Permit Application.
2. Select “Bridging Open Work Permit” as the reason for applying
3. Submit supporting documents like your Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR), nomination certificate, and other requested forms.

2. PR Application Status:
• The fact that medical and criminality assessments are complete and eligibility is in progress means that the background check is not fully done yet.
• The security check is part of the background check, which verifies any potential security risks (e.g., criminal records or international security concerns). Since it hasn’t started yet, your background check is still ongoing.

How long does it take to receive an invitation letter after submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the NLPNP Immigration Acceleration Portal?

Hello @Miss bee or anyone that can pls help with this-
The company I currently work for which is the parent company is dissolving & they are moving all employees to one of their subsidiary companies. Will I need an updated nomination certificate and will I need to refill some of my IMM forms submitted to the Federal government. My role or duties doesn't change. I also haven’t gotten AOR yet
Note: My PNP nomination certificate is employee tied. What can I do?

Since your PNP nomination is employer-tied and your current employer is dissolving, this change can affect your nomination status. Here’s what you should do:

1. Contact the OINP (Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program):
• Notify them about the company transition and provide details that your role and duties will remain the same under the subsidiary.
• Ask if they can issue an updated nomination certificate reflecting the new employer.

2. IRCC

• Since you haven’t received your Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR) yet, you can inform IRCC through a webform about the change.
• Include any documentation showing that the new subsidiary is essentially a continuation of your employment with the same responsibilities.

3. Updated Employer Documents:
• Request a new job offer letter from the subsidiary company.
• If required, update the IMM 5669 (Schedule A), IMM 5406 (Additional Family Information), and IMM 0008 (Generic Application Form for Canada) forms.

4. Maintain Compliance with PNP Conditions:
• Ensure the new employer meets the same criteria that qualified you for the nomination.
• If the OINP approves the transfer, IRCC is more likely to accept the change.
