Have you ever held travel documents or passports during your 5-year eligibility period? Provide an explanation

This is my answer:

No. I have not held any travel documents during this period as I have never left outside the country or applied for any travel document. I came to Canada in 2019 and I had only a photocopy of the bio page in my passport. This photocopy was verified by CBSA.
Do I still upload the bio page of my expired photocopy ?

Do you currently, or have you ever held immigration or citizenship status in a country or territory other than Canada

(this includes your country of birth)?

Immigration and citizenship status 1

Date obtained or effective date

Year (YYYY)

Month

Day

End date

This is my answer:

I use my date of birth as my citizenship confirmation in the country I was born and am confused about the end date. I applied for a refugee here but did not renounce my country citizenship so what do I put as the end date?

That's strange. A five-year period starting from today, February 21, 2025, would have begun on February 21, 2020.
When did you exactly applied? What was the reason(s) they sent back your application? Btw end date for home country citizenship is N/A non applicable, leave that blank.

There's a checkbox titled 'Not applicable' under the end date (because there's no end date). Click that, the box no longer requires you to enter anything.

It doesn't matter when you got your PR here, you will always be a citizen of the country that you were born. That should be left blank or add Present. When did you get the PR, you should have at least 2 years as PR before applying for citizenship out of 5 years eligibility

What was the validity of your passport? As you said you only had photocopy of it. What happened to the original one?

I had my protected person status in April 2021
I had my PR status in August 2022
I applied for my citizenship in January 2015.

I do not hold any valid passport during this eligibility period. Do I upload my photocopy of my bio passport. That was given to me by USA immigration when they seized the original

One more question. I started working with my current job feb 2022. I did some part time between Jan to June 2024 but the latter job goes first in my actives list. Is that fine?

Hello guys I have one question here. For the section do you held passports or travel document during last five years.. my old passport was expired during last five years…I was on refugee status so there is a gap between old passport expired date and new passport’s issue date because my passport was held by CBSA. So I had to explain why there is gap between two dates.. should I worry about this? I submitted my application yesterday.

The gap between validity is not an issue.

However: you technically should not have renewed/applied to renew your passport if you are a protected person.* A complex issue, but in short: do not use your new passport. Do not travel on it. Do not travel to country of origin using it. And I hope you didn't (if you have, you might best speak to a lawyer).

*If you care to read up on it, the issue is re-availment and rescission. As a protected person, you should not be 'availing yourself' of the protection of the country (that you asked for protection from). As I understand it, just renewing the passport is probably not an issue; travel on it especially to home country can result in losing PR status.

Thanks for your reply.. so during my Refugee case I applied my PR in spousal sponsorship category. When Ircc asked for the valid passport or travel document for the final decision, I sent the explanation that my passport is held by CBSA. Then CBSA sent my passport back and I renewed and sent to Ircc. I withdrew my refugee application without any hearing. So is there anything to worry about?

Ah, if that's the case, then I think you are not a protected person - I had assumed that based on incomplete info & your comment about being on refugee status (wrong assumption in this case).

I'd hope someone would correct but if you switched and not a protected person, should be no issue.

Thank you .. and I also selected no for “were you on work permit or student before PR”. I hope that would be okay.
