Hello all,

I have a pending refugee claim and would like to know if my timeline is "normal."

Jul 8, 2024 – Filled out the forms online on the IRCC website and sent the BOC.
Jul 11, 2024 – Received an email stating that my tourist visa was canceled.
Jul 25, 2024 – Received an email scheduling my eligibility interview for Aug 2024.
Aug 2, 2024 – Medical exams.
Aug 3, 2024 – Medical exams passed.
Aug 16, 2024 – Eligibility interview (NO SHOW). I had some issues and was unable to attend. At that point, I knew my process could be canceled.
Aug 22, 2024 – Letter: Confirmation of Referral from IRB.
Aug 23, 2024 - Called IRCC office and they said my case was eligible even without the interview.
Aug 26, 2024 – Work permit issued.
Sep 1, 2024 – Work permit delivered.
Sep 3, 2024 – SIN number received.
Oct 9, 2024 – Background check complete and passed.
Jan 16, 2025 – Interview call-in (IRCC in Ottawa).
Jan 21, 2025 – Appointment in Ottawa: They took pictures, biometrics, seized my passport, and I received all the documents, including the brown paper.

During this appointment, I was very well assisted by an IRCC officer. She was extremely polite and mentioned that she had read my case. According to her, my case is strong and likely approved.

She also told me to contact the IRB in Toronto (where I live) to inquire about my hearing date, so I wouldn’t be left in “limbo.” She reassured me that my case is very strong.

That’s what she said.

Is there something else that I can do? I'm afraid to be denied.
I'm preparing my documents for my hearing date.

They can’t really assess your case in an eligibility interview. Surprised they would actually give you any indication of the strength of your case in the eligibility interview given it is not up to them to determine outcomes of asylum claims. That doesn’t mean you don’t have grounds it is always based on the individual case and proof provided. What you should do is hire a lawyer

Hi, Due to our work schedule couldn’t attend it, however surprisingly we also got the “confirmation of referral” and also my spouse got email of Work Permit being issued today. We are so confused as we didn’t do medical yet too(2 weeks left to do). Waiting to hear more from them. Any clarification/information would be also appreciated

Not sure how that happened and why you were issued Confirmation of Referral. Hope there'll be no issue in future. What happens when you have hearing and doesnt align with your work schedule? Are you going not to attend?
you realize these immigration matters should always be priority over work..
