Please I had my baby in Canada while still less that 18 months in Canada. I want to know if she qualifies for retroactive payments now that I have passed the 18 months required eligibility time frame since she was born here in Canada

So you are on a work permit. You are eligible when you reach 18 months onwards. You aren’t eligible for CBB prior to the 18 months.

Qualifying for CCB is based on the parent’s status not the child’s. You are the one applying for CCB not your child which is why only qualifying at 18 months still stands. It is to also to disincentivize temporary residents from having children as soon as they get to Canada because most will not be in a financial position to care for the child, not qualify for maternity payments, etc.

Hello,

I am a bookkeeper and one of my clients moved to Canada in 2017 on a work permit. She received child tax benefit for 2022, 2023 & 2024, is there a way for her to receive payments for 2018, 2019 & 2020? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

You don't say exactly when she moved to Canada. However earliest she would have qualified is in the 19 months after arriving in Canada.

Her children also moved with her in 2017? It should be part of her tax return back then...
Yes, both her children and her moved in 2017. Does that mean when she filed her tax return back then, she should have applied then? Is there no way now to apply for retroactive payments? Thanks.

I think the normal application is via CRA website (My Account). I am not sure how to do that for prior tax years. Maybe you can call CRA number to find out.

My kids were born outside Canada. They were born Canadians. They are now in Canada receiving CCB. I file taxes every year.
Is it possible to retroactive payments for the unpaid years?

Please Help . I am moving to Canada in next 2 months as PR for first time with my wife and a 2 year old.I heard if we landed before April 30 and get our SIN and apply for tax returns then we can start getting CCB in next 2 or 3 months but if we dont do tax returns in time wewill get CCB retroactively in 2026 when we do our 1st tax returns. my question is can we do tax returns landing in april for 1st time even though we didn't live there ever before ? And will we only be able to get CCB monthly if we do tax returns in april this year?
TIA

You’ve misunderstood

The deadline to file taxes is April 30 for individuals for the PRECEDING tax year which ended December 31

If you landed in 2025, taxes won’t be due for this tax year till April 30 2025

You weren’t a resident of Canada in 2024, or had ties to Canada in 2024, so you wouldn’t be filing taxes for that year
