Hi All,

I have recently graduated and am about to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). My wife, who is currently employed in a Tier 1 job, holds a Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP). Both our permits (study and work) are valid until November 25, 2024. Given the recent changes to the SOWP (Jan 14th), I am concerned about my status as a student.
-> Now that I have finished my studies, will I no longer be considered a student when applying for the PGWP?
-> According to the latest updates, do I need to secure a job in Tier 0 or Tier 1 to extend my wife’s visa?
-> Furthermore, if I apply for the PGWP before January 21st, will the changes affect my wife’s status?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated, as we are quite unsure about our next steps.

Thanks.

Are you currently employed? If so what tier level? Do you have 3 pay stubs?

For spouse to be eligible you must be employed with job letter and paystubs. Did you permits expire November 2024?

I am currently employed on a one-year contract until Dec 2025. My wife's SOWP is set to expire in September 2025.
If I receive my PGWP in the next couple of months, would I be eligible to apply for an extension of her SOWP based on my PGWP status?

Depends on your NOC and how long the PGWP is.

I am working as a senior software developer and I completed my Masters (Dec 2024).
Will contract full time cause any issue while applying for SOWP extension?

Hi,
I am on SOWP which is to set to expire by April 2025. My spouse recently graduated and has applied for PGWP (currently on applied status). Can i apply for SOWP extension if my wife secures a full-time paid internship for 4 months in a TEER 1 category as per the new rules?

So the job is only 4 months? All you can do is try and hope it is approved.

Yes. She is waiting for PGWP and if approved will get PGWP for 3 years. Am I eligible to apply with that? Recent rule says she needs to have PGWP valid for atleast 16 months
