PR Renewal - letter of explanation

Wife is applying for her PR renewal which had expired in June 2024. She applied for a PRTD (which was granted) to return to Canada.
Do we need a Letter of explanation to justify the late renewal or is it optional in this case?

No explanation required for late renewal, unless you think it's relevant. What's important is compliance with the residency obligation.

Just for context, no-one is 'required' to have a PR card, nor to renew it in a certain period. The card is not the status.
