Hello everyone,

I wanted to share an update on the number of resettled refugees in Canada, based on recently released data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) covering the period between November and December 2024.

The data shows a notable increase in the total number of resettled refugees during this one-month period. Overall, the number of resettled refugees increased by 5,545 individuals. This increase was seen across all three major sponsorship categories: Blended Sponsorship, Government-Assisted, and Privately Sponsored.

Here's a breakdown of the changes:

Blended Sponsorship Refugee: Increased by 130 (from 9,140 to 9,270).

Government-Assisted Refugee: Increased by 2,705 (from 138,320 to 141,025).

Privately Sponsored Refugee: Increased by 2,715 (from 174,135 to 176,850).

Total: Increased by 5,545 (from 321,600 to 327,145).

This data indicates continued progress in Canada's refugee resettlement efforts. It will be interesting to see how these trends continue in subsequent months.

I've summarized the changes in the table below:

To be fair many would have been already in the pipeline before any changes were announcement so tough to see any pattern so early.

Hello again everyone,

I'm back with another update on Canadian refugee resettlement numbers, this time including data from January 2025, as released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). We now have a three-month comparison (November 2024, December 2024, and January 2025), which helps us track the ongoing progress of Canada's resettlement program.

Important Note: The "Total" figures represent the cumulative number of resettled refugees since the beginning of the program in January 2015, not just the monthly total. This is an important distinction for understanding the data.

Key Changes (December 2024 - January 2025):

Blended Sponsorship Refugee: Decreased by 195 (from 9,270 to 9,075). This is a reversal from the previous month's increase.

Government-Assisted Refugee: Increased by 860 (from 141,025 to 141,885). This continues the upward trend seen in December.

Privately Sponsored Refugee: Increased by 1,050 (from 176,850 to 177,900). This also continues the upward trend.

Total (Cumulative since Jan 2015): Increased by 1,715 (from 327,145 to 328,860). While still an increase, it's a smaller increase than the previous month.

Combined Data (November 2024 - January 2025):
