I hope you can help me on a this topic. My daughter landed in Montreal on Saturday. She asked for an AVE tourist by mistake as she is here for an internship during 9 weeks. We need to solve that administrative issue. Do you think she really has to leave the country and come back to solve that ?
What are our solutions in that case ?

What do you mean? She landed in Montreal with eTA so what is the issue. She was allowed to enter.

Yes she is allowed to enter as a tourist. But she is here for an internship during 9 weeks and they say she needs another document. It’s so stressful.

What document does she need? Who is “they”? Is the internship work or study? Paid? If in Quebec, did she get CAQ?

internship is at chum (centre hospitalier universitaire de Montréal) and they asked her to fill in a document with ave information. Internship is for study. She is studying biology in Belgium and needs to spend 9 weeks as a trainee. Not paid.

Not sure who “they” is but she needs to ask CHUM what to do. Seems like she just entered on eTA/AVE with no CAQ or CAQ exemption to study in Canada. Quebec has its own immigration laws with regards to studying.

Is it possible to change the right documents do you think ? What would we have to do ? Leave the country and come back ?

She has to ask CHUM on what to do next. CHUM should have advised her on the correct documentation to come as a student. If not in Quebec, she could have studied on her eTA but Quebec has different rules. If she needs CAQ, it can take months. So cannot just change to the right documents.

Friend that came last year told her they came with 7$ AVE but they checked the box « Stage/internship » on the immigration computers as they arrived at the airport. She checked tourist.

Ahh…she needs to ask what to do from CHUM but she may need to fly out of country and then return. She ticked the wrong box.

If absolutely necessary entering the US by land and reentering from Montreal would be much less expensive. Unclear if this will actually be needed.
