My understanding is if you already applied for SOWP and waiting for the result, you get maintained status https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/visitors/implied-status-extending-stay.html

If you haven't applied yet, you need to do a visitor record https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/extend-stay.html

I applied for a visitor's record in October to get health insurance under my spouse and I'm currently waiting for the outcome of the SOWP.
