Will LMIA-exempt job offers also lose additional points in Express Entry?

I understand that Express Entry candidates will no longer receive additional points for valid job offers as part of efforts to reduce and prevent LMIA fraud, but what about LMIA-exempt job offers?

I recently applied for a Francophone Mobility work permit (LMIA exemption code C16) through my employer, where I’ve been working for over a year. Under the current rules, I believe I would normally qualify for the 50 additional points once my closed work permit is issued. Does anyone know if LMIA-exempt job offers like mine will also lose the additional points?

Yes, all LMIAs. You should be eligible under French draws so no need for 50 points

It's for all job offers based on the announcement. So that would include LMIA exempt. IRCC is simply going to stop giving people the extra 50 points for a job offer.

If there are any exemptions, IRCC hasn't announced them yet so it would be best not to count on there being exemptions. Note that this change takes effect next summer so you would want to get ITA and submit your application before then to get the 50 points.

I don't qualify for the French-speaking EE stream because I don't have NCLC 7 proficiency on all four skills, unfortunately. The Francophone Mobility work permit I applied to only requires NCLC 5 or higher on speaking and listening, which I managed to get after studying French for about a year, and it was such a pain...

Hopefully this measure at least lowers the cut-off score for the Canadian Experience Class program and gives me a shot at 478 points, but I feel like I've been screwed

I see, thank you. The change will apparently come into effect in spring 2025 based on the announcement, not summer, so probably I won’t even get a chance to see my score go from 478 to 528 temporarily (I applied for the work permit earlier this month, but inland closed work permit applications have been taking up to 6 months to process). Sucks to be me, eh

I would focus on further improving your French score and getting to CLB7. Qualifying for the French draw seems like your easiest path forward. Good luck.
