Study Permit Extension and Restoration of Status

I completed my program on August 18th, and since there was a gap between the two programs, I started working full-time on September 1st. At the time, I thought I was following the rules. My Masters program is set to begin on January 6th, and I intended to extend my study permit to stay on track.

The delay in applying for the extension was because I was waiting for my offer letter for the Masters program. Once I received it, I applied for the extension on December 17th, thinking I was still within the 90-day grace period. Unfortunately, I’ve realized I miscalculated the dates—I didn’t account for how the 90 days are counted and mistakenly believed I had more time than I actually did. Looking back, I regret not double-checking earlier.

On top of this, I unknowingly worked illegally for almost 30 days after my student status expired. This was never intentional, and I feel awful about it. I’m already blaming myself enough for the oversight, so I’d kindly ask for understanding rather than further blame. I’m just trying to take responsibility and figure out how to fix things.

Now, I understand that I must restore my student status before I can start my Masters program or take any other steps. However, I’m unsure whether I need to withdraw my current study permit extension application and submit a new one with a restoration request, or if I should wait for the current application to be processed.

I’d really appreciate guidance from someone with expertise in this area. What are my best options at this point? Is withdrawing and reapplying the right path, or is there another way to resolve this?

When did your study permit expire exactly?
