Hi guys. I graduated from my master's program at the end of September and received my 3-year PGWP at the end of October (so it is valid till October 2027). My student visa expires in August 2025. I did not know that I could still use my student visa to travel in and out of Canada and I submitted my TRV application with my PGWP in early November.
My application is still under review and no updates have been provided.

In my application page, it says that "Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start reviewing your eligibility". Does this mean that they have not started to review my application? I was wondering since I submitted my TRV application 9 months before my current TRV expires, will they still process my application and give me a TRV that has the same expiring date as my PGWP?

Besides, is there a time limit on how soon I should mail my passport to them after my TRV is approved? I have some travel plans early 2025 and I don't want to miss the deadline to mail out my passport in case they approve my application.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

As a follow-up question, must I remain in Canada although I have a valid student visa? As I read on the IRCC website here, it seems that I must not leave Canada before my TRV gets approved.

I don't have exact information about what you are talking about, how important is this to you?

Note: You have NOT mentioned your existing TRV end date. It doesn’t necessarily coincides with study permit end date all the time, so watch out for the end date of the TRV stamp on your passport.

TRV application approval may come anytime now as it is nearly a month. There is gonna be an update about biometrics and followed by the passport request. You will get 30 days to submit the passport.

If travel is urgent and soon then it is up to you whether to withdraw the application and reapply next year after the travel. If passport request is made and you can’t wait for stamping for urgent travel then make the travel ignoring the request. But make sure that you make a call to ircc before the travel. Tell them that you are declining the application by ignoring passport request and ask them if it can cause any issue for the travel (I think there shouldn’t be any issue as long as you come back before your existing/old TRV expires.)
