As a PR of Canada now eligible to apply for citizenship, I'm filling out the online Canadian Citizenship application.

In the section Work, school, and activities, I've listed three jobs I've had in the period being considered.

My question is this: I was part of a mass layoff during the pandemic after which I drew EI for several months before finding my next job; should I include receiving EI as an "activity" in the section Work, school, and activities? (I'm not entirely sure what counts as an activity beyond work and school.)

Thanks in advance for any advice you may be able to offer.

You can include that part as unemployed.

Hi and thanks. So, would you advise creating a separate activity titled Unemployed and mentioning EI? Or mentioning Unemployed without mentioning EI?

No need to mention EI. It's a benefit, not an occupation, and IRCC doesn't care whether you asked for it or not. Just list unemployed and put N/A in the other sections for the unemployment entry.
