Starting November 8, 2024, you must be enrolled in the designated learning institution (DLI) named on your study permit. This means you can no longer change DLIs by letting us know through your online account. To change DLIs, you need to apply for a new study permit.

This was bound to happen. Too many people were abusing this rule.

Think the bigger issue was people changing after the first semester.

I just arrived in Canada last week Wednesday. I want to change my DLI to a different province before school resumes. I plan on transferring from a uni from ontario to new brunswik. Do i need a new PAL from New Brunswick to apply for a new study permit or i can use the PAL from ontario to apply for a school in New Brunswick. Your replies will be highly appreciated

No, I have not started studying in any university yet. I just arrived last week and expect to start by January 2025. But I want to transfer to a university in new brunswick instead.

You need a new PAL and study permit

What are you going to do between now and January or longer if you apply for new permit? You can only study at your school in Ontario. So you can a) attend Ontario school and graduate or b) get new PAL and study permit but it will not be in time for January 2025.

To count both programs for PGWP, you must finish within two years of the start of the first program. By requiring a new study permit for the second program, it will be next to impossible to do this with waiting times for response. Also programs will have to be eligible for PGWP plus show $21k and tuition for second program.

And if you apply for SP for second program and wait more than 6 months for response, you then may not be eligible for PGWP with the first program.

Do we need to show GIC amount for second program even if you applying inland?

Yes the source is on the PGWP website. Always been that way, as the two programs must be back to back. Also there is no longer 3 year PGWP eligibility for 2 programs. It is the combined length of the 2 programs. Again it is explained on the PGWP site. So if the 2 programs are 8 months in length then expect 16 months.

You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed must be

• PGWP eligible and
• at least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials) in length

To apply, it is a new study permit so need to meet new study permit guidelines and show funds of $21k plus tuition. Doesn’t matter that you are inland.
