My family and I are still accepted as protected persons in Canada, now we must apply for the PR. My question is if we all have to make a single application, since my children are adults of 20, 26 and 32 years of age, economically independent and 2 of them have children?

Each applies on their own. They are not dependants and over 22.

Were the eldest not already separate asylum applications?

No, we were all in the same process and in the decision letter we all appear together, that is why I wanted to know if we should all apply together or if they should each apply separately.
