Yes you can renew your passport. Just inform CIC of this when you get it. There will be no issues as people have done it all the time.
Thankyou Screech 39 for your reply..I will be sending my passport for renewal soon and immediately when bill c6 get implemented I will apply with the expired passport March 2016. Do I have to explain in the application that I am in process in renewing my passport and will send it the soonest after I get it..

There's no harm in informing them about renewing passport. They are only interested in your new passport when you get it so that they can update your file.
Many countries require passport applicants to submit their current/last passport with their application. Remember to take photocopies of your passport before sending it in for renewal. Another issue may be how long it takes to receive your new passport (and the old one) back. If you are called in for an interview before the passports are returned to you, you won't have a passport to show IRCC, and that may result in your citizenship application being delayed.

My current non-Canadian passport is valid for less than 6 months and I am planning to travel to my home country in Dec, 2024. The embassy and airline guidelines say that I need at least 6 months validity to travel to any international destination. Therefore, I plan to renew my passport in my home country during my Dec, 2024 visit so that I can come back to Canada without issues.
Questions:
1. If my Canadian citizenship application is submitted in Nov, 2024 and my renewed passport is obtained in Dec 2024, where should I report the passport information change to IRCC. Should I use this link? - https://secure.cic.gc.ca/ClientContact/en/Application/Form/72 OR are there other ways to report the change?
2. Does submitting renewed passport information have impact on Canadian citizenship application processing time? Also, does it matter if I submit this change in the early stages of application review versus later when I get an invitation to book my written exam?

Renewing passport is not one of the criteria where IRCC expects you to contact them for after you submit your application.

Hi everyone I am about to renew my passport while my Canadian citizenship is on process should I need after I have renewed my passport to let Ircc know because I have heard is not needed to only if they ask you for it but I am an certain what to do anyone for his/ her experience had experience anything like this can let me know please and thank you
I saw this comment and is basically what I have heard that is not need to inform them unless they require for it and the person who has typed this is saying what I am saying like if you want to you can sent webforms all I was checking is if the person who typed the same question like me send or no webform or maybe other people has pass through this and they can give more updates
