AA: You can do walk-in but those are painful & time consuming!

Pro Trick: Better wait for 2 more days, they may open November month appointment slots on 1st or 2nd November. Multiple times check appointment page on those days & book!

Thanks for your reply. I booked appointment for 30 Nov but now I see earlier dates are also available. Is there a process to cancel the appointment and book again?

Unfortunately, they don’t have an appointment cancellation system.

And I think it won’t allow u to book another appointment with the same Passport number.

Hello Everyone,

I have applied for Passport surrender on 26th October and on bls tracking it shows "Processing at Consulate General "

And on passport portal I am getting "Entered Application reference number can not be tracked."

what should I do?

back story, they found a mistake and told me to resubmit it, i got premium service then and they submitted application there. So The ARN does not show on my embassy login. and when I search just by ARN on passport portal I am getting "Entered Application reference number can not be tracked."

After resubmission you cannot track on passport portal. You have to track it at BLS which will only show update once CGI is done processing.

Is there anyone here who has been able to travel to India recently (i.e. last 10-15 days) on their Canadian passport and surrendered the Indian passport in India to get surrender certificate (and possibly oci application too)?

I ask this because of two factors:
1. Bls apparently has started asking for a lot more documents as part of oci application since Oct 31,
2. I read on the bls/Indian consulate website (can't recall which one) that to apply for Indian e-visa also we need surrender certificate. Just not sure if this is very recent or if it is even followed.

You cannot apply for OCI in India on evisa. You need to be on entry visa for that.

eVisa does not require surrender certificate. The main site or BLS does not talk about it.

You can surrender passport in India. It's a cheap and quick process in most cases.

Great to know, thanks for the quick reply! I will take a look at entry vs e-visa. The sites are a bit all over the place so sometimes it is tough to consolidate all the information in the head.

I will mention though, for everyone's benefit here, that I heard in another forum that since Oct 31, bls is asking for declaration/proof that Indian voter id and ration card are surrendered by the foreign citizen applying for oci. I am unsure they have updated their website yet but the bls customer service person told them this. Also idk if this new rule is only for Canadians or other foreign citizens of Indian origin.

This rule was there if you apply for OCI in India, looks like getting implemented in Canada too.

Role of BLS is to make more money, they will make process as inconvenient as possible.
BLS Toronto are asking to get Canadian passport for Indian passport surrender, not sure why citizenship cert is not enough.
Also people might have noticed all the mistakes being found in their application. They will try find issues with every small thing and sell you premium service.
Photo not proper as per the teller, spend extra or come back after 2 months since appointment is not available.
Worse is they can and are selling your data too, i remember agreeing to it on my last postal application.

For walk-in, you are required to bring your original Canadian passport for verification purposes, as per the checklist instructions.
