Hi!
I had just arrived last June 2023 as an International student and has been living with my partner since then. My partner is already a PR.
I am on my work permit and currently waiting for my employer to give me a Job Approval Letter.
By next year, should we already declare the common law relationship when filing our tax? Would there be an issue if I apply as a PR through provincial nomination?

If you’ve been living with them since June 2023, you were considered common law June 2024, you should of already notified the CRA

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/child-family-benefits/update-your-marital-status-canada-revenue-agency.html

You must tell the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) about your new marital status by the end of the following month after your status changed. For example, if your status changed in March, you must tell us by the end of April.

New marital status = commonlaw
Your partner should call or update their marital status online since you would not have a master file in the system

This will then affect any credits paid out

thank you for taking time to reply.
Will this have an impact if I apply through provincial nomination soon?

All the CRA is concerned about is common law and how it applies to income tax act .
Sounds like you’re already common law since earlier this year , why not have your partner who is already PR start the spousal sponsorship ?
If they are agreeable to it
