Hi all,

My cousin has applied for his work permit and visitor visa and waiting for decision. Meanwhile, his study permit expired in July this year. He wish to travel back to his home country for a few months. Can he travel back to his country and can he re-enter Canada once his application for work permit or visitor visa approved? Or he needs to wait to receive the approval first and get his passport stamped and then travel back and forth? Is there anything that can be done if he does not wish to wait for the decision and travel back to his country with an expired permit and stamp?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Need a valid TRV to re-enter. When did cousin apply for TRV/visitor visa if study permit expired in July. Did cousin apply for TRV or visitor record.

No, nothing applied. Can he apply for TRV/visitor record while waiting on his file decision?
What do you mean by “no, nothing applied”? A visitor record lets you stay in Canada. He needs status like approved PGWP to apply for TRV. That is why I asked because you said he applied for work permit and TRV? So did he or not. And if so, did he apply for TRV (not sure how eligible) or VR.

I meant he has applied for his work permit and TRV, nothing other than that. I want to know what else he can apply for so that he can travel to his country and come back once he receives a approval for his WP.

Nothing. If he has applied for TRV, it needs to be approved for him to re-enter. WP just allows him to work. So if he leaves without a valid TRV, he will not be allowed to return.

What I am trying to ask is if he applied for a TRV before study permit expired or while he is on maintained status. Please read the link.
