My siblings are studying in Alberta province. They are both in their 3rd year. But with their work, they can't raise their complete school fees. Thus, money is sent from home and the exchange rate is high. Please how can they get financial aid to help them complete the remaining sessions? Are there other options apart from aid and loan?

They need to talk to the school about payment plan or aid. Also they can look into a bank loan. If they are Canadian citizens or PR they would be eligible for financial aid from the province. International students are expected to pay fees.

International students are rarely able to cover all their expenses by working. It would have been expected that the family would need to pay the majority of their costs.

Okay. Can they defer the admission so as to work to pay their fees? Will it affect the limited time of their study permit?

They are students so not deferring admission. They need to talk to the school about taking an approved leave of absence for one semester. They then apply to the government as a destitute student to get one semester off to work. Not sure working for one semester will give them enough funds as they still need to pay living expenses.

I don’t know when their study permits expire but to extend they need to show tuition paid and living expenses. Have they been full-time students for all 3 years? No breaks/no part time semesters?

For two years actually. Entering 3rd year by January. No breaks. No part time semesters.

So they are still studying now but cannot pay for next semester. They need to talk to their international student advisor and figure out a payment plan. Also talk to school about taking an approved leave for a semester and maybe filing as destitute. Are they working 20 hours per week or not working?

Even if they can take an approved break and can work full-time as a destitute student how will they be able to save enough money to fund their studies for 2 more years?? They’d need to save at least 100K each to finish their degrees which is not realistic
