I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but we have to travel urgently due to a funeral. My wife and I landed here before our kids, and we renewed our PR Cards earlier this year, but it slipped us when our kids cards expired a couple months ago.

Now we have to travel due to the death of a family member. Would we be allowed back into Canada with both parents PR Cards valid but our kids cards expired?

No. Your PR cards are not your kids. Can enter via US border, if you all have valid US travel visas. If not, apply for PRTD card outside Canada.

You weren't clear but are your kids travelling too?

If they are, the issue that you'll face will be whether they'll be allowed to board a plane without valid PR cards. And the answer is they won't (unless they have US passports).

Wouldn't be a problem at a land border - CBSA will let them in.

Your kids will not be allowed to board the plane for Canada unless they happen to hold US passports. They must be holding valid PR cards to be allowed on the plane by the airline.

Only other option is to fly to the US on your return trip (assuming you have valid US visas) and then re-enter Canada through a land border using a private vehicle.

Or, you would need to apply for a PRTD for both of your children once you are outside of Canada and wait for the PRTDs to be processed before being able to return.
