Passport expires soon after receiving approval

Hello, I have a question. I applied for a Temporary Resident Visa about a year ago. Today I received a reply that the visa was approved.

They asked me to send my passport, but his passport expires in 2 months. If I renew my son's passport, will it be cancelled or will they reject the application?

Can I send a new passport or should I send the one I put in the application?

You don't have much choice.

If you submit the current passport, they might put the visa expiry for 2 months or request for a new one anyways. It's not uncommon that they return passports several months after passport request.

Anyways, why didn't you renew the passport sooner?

I actually forgot the expiration date of my passport, I applied for a Canadian visa in March 2024 and today they gave me an answer.

I am going to renew my passport, send it, and if they cannot stamp the visa on the new passport, then I will apply again, I have no other option.

It's ok to renew your passport; you must submit both passports to VFS.
However, they don't change the expiry date of the issued visa (valid until your current passport's expiration date). So even with a new passport, you only have a visa for two months.

Sorry for that.
However the next time you apply, you are qualified for CAN+ and the decision should come in a month.

If you're submitting your passport from India, you can use the VFS courier service, which includes a question on the form about whether you've renewed your passport since applying. If you're not from India, you can send a webform to IRCC notifying them of your passport renewal and attach a copy of the new passport. Then, submit the new passport to IRCC for stamping. I did this for my mother-in-law, and it was accepted.

Yes, she received an 8-year visa valid until the expiration of her biometrics.
