Hi.Hi Everyone,
I need information about traveling outside of Canada. Below are the timelines for my Work Permit (WP), Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), and WP extension application dates:
I have a valid Visitor Visa that expires in 2029.
- Work Permit expiry date: January 30, 2025.
- Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) expiry date: October 20, 2024.
- WP extension applied date: September 5, 2024.
I am planning to travel to my home country in December and return by the end of December 2024, using my Visitor Visa. Upon re-entry, I plan to enter Canada with my Work Permit. Can I travel?
In order to travel in and out of Canada you need a TRV, that is the only visa that allows you in and out. You have to renew your TRV before leaving the country.
If you travel out Canada with your TRV expired you wont be able to come in to Canada leaving you as only chance to apply for a TRV from your country, where you will have to wait. If you dont come back in before January 30, when your current permit expires, you loose your maintained status as worker, and you would have to working until you get your new work visa which can take 7-8 months.
I think the best is to apply for a TRV today, and travel AFTER you have your passports updated with it.
Hopefully you will get it before the travel.
