My mom applied for asylum as a refugee in 2016 stating that we are in danger in india. That claim was rejected by the government and she applied later under spousal case through which I got my PR. I was a minor in all this. I wanna visit India this October but I’m wondering if it would impact my future citizenship or if I would have problems coming back. I checked my Copr and it says my application is under FCC which is the common law partner case

The only issue could be with India not Canada. Wouldn’t say it is an ideal time to visit India as a PR holder.

Technically you could get some pushback from CBSA given you are visiting a country that you claimed asylum from but your PR is through family sponsorship and are a PR so you are legally entitled to entry into Canada and to visit India. It’s unclear when you got rejected and whether you appealed and applied for JR and when you actually got PR and abandoned pursuing asylum. Although there still will be no issue with citizenship or entry into Canada the optics are not great if your family spent years fighting to get asylum case approved and if soon after you get PR through family sponsorship you suddenly feel it is safe to go to India.

I mean technically I could wait to go but god I really want to go plus I’m in gap year so it’s like perfect timing. Will I be beer scrutinty of CBSA at the airport would they likely file an investigation or smth. Plus I renewed my passport and if I travelled to countries other than India is that fine once I apply for citizenship

You can legally visit India. No there will not be an investigation but you could receives some comments when you reenter. When did you get PR? Nobody can predict what India will do. Some countries are not a huge fan of people claiming asylum abroad. The tensions with Canada certainly also doesn’t help.

Can’t say what will happen in India. You can look at other forums to see if people are encountering issues as Canadians, PRs, have claimed asylum abroad, etc. The most current conflict with India is relatively recent and we may not have seen full response yet and whether those coming from Canada will encounter any issues.

Do people not realize that passports will show this and that IRCC will be very suspicious of travel to border countries and may ask for proof of your stay in Nepal?
