i had been thru ss and it took around 8 months just to get BVL
I had been in contact with many Pakistani students under SDS & NON SDS going thru SS
I had been in contact with certain Chinese students stuck in same boat
I have studied HUNDREDS of GCMS notes and CBSA notes to understand there processing

The background check for study permit is it different from the background check for express Entry ( Permanent Residency)?

What is mandamus for?

I have been waiting for my application since April 1, 2024. Through a MP, i found out that my file is stuck in security check. Background and criminality checks are passed. Is there anything I can do?

I did Mandamus to expediate the screening and get decision on my Visa application. You are waiting since april and its not even a year so I wont suggest mandamus.
You raise a webform and WAIT thats all. I mean idk if u want to but you can file mandamus writ (based on reasoning that ur visa application of SP has taken more than stated processing time on website). I wont rely on MP words I would order CSIS and GCMS notes to confirm this (as they act additional evidence if you file mandamus).
Also if you have researched, there is an old doc of IRCC states the SS usually takes 216 days ig (not sure about exact digits but the doc is from 2016).
