Hello everyone,

My spouse is currently in the 90 days grace period on a study permit and we just received her AIP Letter today.

We were planning on applying for OWP as she is not planning on going back to school for now but I've seen comments around that said it's not worth it as she'll get her PR before OWP approval.

So should we apply for a Visitor Record instead?

Do you mean AOR vs AIP?

When you say the 90 days are you saying her study permit already expired and you're in the 90 day restoration period or something else?

Yes, her study permit is expired and in the 90 days restoration period but as she does not plan on going back to school we won't be applying for restoration.

We received the AOR months back but as she was out of status we could not apply for OWP and we were waiting till the AIP stage
We've finally received the AIP Letter today.

I've read somewhere that she can apply for a Visitor Record instead during the 90 days restoration period unless I misunderstood.
It also is a lot cheaper than applying for the OWP, especially if she ends up getting her PR before OWP.

I don't think she can apply for visitor status now since applying for restoration to visitor period (90 days) have passed.

correction: I misread that you have passed the 90 day period. So yes, she can apply to restore her status (as visitor).

If she wants to apply for a visitor record then she also needs to apply to restore her status and pay the related fees for restoration as well.

She can apply for the OWP.

Okay, did not know she would still have to pay for the restoration.
Will go ahead with the OWP application.

Thank you and have a good day!

Last question,
Would she have to apply for restoration of status to worker with the OWP application?

no. if she applies OWP, then she doesn't need to restore her status if she doesn't care if she's out of status while waiting for the OWP approval.
If she wants to restore her status, it's to restore her status as visitor.
