can 16 yr old on Study permit, also apply for a work permit?

Hi, have not found an answer to this question, so here I am... In regards for my sister-in-law and nephew.
Both here from Ukraine and will apply for PR. Mother has Open Work Permit , son has study permit.
Is it possible for him to get a work permit? He is still in secondary school (Grade 11) and resides in apartment with mom. Mom is working a couple of survival jobs.

I get that he is not in post-secondary school, but he is residing with his mother in Canada.

He can try. Would suggest including why he wants to work and clarifying studies is his main priority and work would be part-time and perhaps full-time in the summer. Would also give a brief history about their immigration situation. Processing will like take many months.

Thanks, canuck78, will think on it. They just applied and will receive PR under that new Ukrainian family reunification program anyway. Seems like Ukrainians have been given golden keys in dealing with IIRC and CRA. Oh the stories I could tell, but I just shut up lol.

Yes they were very lucky and this has set an extremely dangerous precedent for Canada.
