PGWP extension due to passport expiry

Hello everyone,

My passport expires in December 2025, so I received my PGWP valid until that time. I have since renewed my passport, which is now valid for 10 years. How can I apply for an extension of my PGWP? Is it mandatory to apply via paper application, or can I apply online? Has anyone recently applied online and successfully received their PGWP? Did any recent changes make the paper application mandatory for PGWP extensions?

It is paper. The IRCC states that it MUS be done on paper. During Covid, they allowed if for a short time but it has always been done this way. From IRCC.

If you need to extend your PGWP or change its conditions
You must apply on paper if you’re extending or changing the conditions of your PGWP. You can only extend your PGWP if your passport expired before your PGWP’s validity period.

Apply Paper based and apply as soon as possible. It takes around 7 months to get decision.
(You can work even if your current work permit expires and you have submitted an application for extension). But you wouldn't be able to enter back in Canada as a worker (in case of travelling abroad)

I’ve almost the Same case. My PGWP WAS given only for the duration as per the passport expiry date which was 1 year and 10 months. But I’ve applied for extension already in June online base with no reply yet. I’ve a 10 years visitor visa stamped on my passport at the time of PGWP. My main concern is can I leave Canada and come back on my visitor visa, will they allow me to enter back without any trouble or is it better to wait for the extension. Any information in this regard would be very much helpful.

Everyone will want to know if your extension is approved because PGWP can only be extended via paper. IRCC makes that very clear. Hopefully you get lucky. If you have TRV then you can leave and re-enter.

You can leave and enter back on your Visitor Visa (TRV) but you wouldn't be able to work until you get decision of your PGWP extension.

Hi,

I also need to renew my PGWP in the future due to passport issues. They only gave me a time limit from June 21, 2023 to October 8, 2025. I am curious whether my request for the remaining time due to passport issues will be affected by the new policy of CLB language scores? I have not seen any information or detailed policies on the official website.

Or do I just need to submit the application normally? Because I have obtained my PGWP before November 1, 2024.
