Need help about Closed work permit and loss of employment

Hello There,

My current Employer is going through some lay offs and terminating a lot of employees everyday and I can be the next in line any day.

So I would like to know what will be my option if
1) I get terminated now while on Implied status
2) get terminated after getting my closed work permit

Below is my profile

PEI PNP issued under critical worker stream
Applied for PR under Provincial Nominee - April 5 - awaiting AOR
PGWP expired June 20
Applied for extension to Close work permit - Non LMIA - June 16
Currently under Implied status
Married and I have applied open work permit for spouse along with my extension

If the layoff happens, you will need to notify the province that you have lost your job. Normally the province then gives you a specific period of time to find a new employer who is willing to support your application.

Province provides 30 days to find a new employer but I am not aware what happens with the work permit situation while on implied status or on a closed work permit? If I managed to get AOR on my PR application, Am I allowed to change my closed work permit to an open work permit?

If your PNP nomination is not employer restricted, then yes, you can apply for BOWP.

My PNP is employer restricted so once I do get my closed work permit then my only option will be to find another employer who is willing to help me apply another closed work permit or is there any other option?

Yes, you need to find another employer willing to support you PR application.

Do you know how does it work in terms of starting the new employment? The new work permit that I will be getting will be a closed work permit so I can't start work with new employer using that.

Do I get the employment letter and then apply for the new closed work permit?

Not sure about PEI, but in Ontario you inform the Provincial Government about your situation. Other members who are from PEI may be able to provide a better answer.

You need to stop working, find new employer and send email to PNP office and send them documents they requested. They will issue you new work permit support letter. Then with that and with help of new employer apply for new work permit.

If you already have PR then it's simple. You apply for jobs through sites like linkedin and directly through company websites.

Given you are a PR, this isn't an immigration issue. You would be better off posting to different forum that deals with job searches in Canada or the province you are in.
